Stephen Culp the founder of Smart Furniture was inspired when he saw the need for space on a visit to Yahoo. At the time yahoo was only a startup, however fast growth saw the need for more space which was a headache to the office planners. It was this space where Stephen realised not only Yahoo but many people needed to adapt their own space to differing and unique needs.

It was in 1998 when Stephen in a Standford Professor’s garage an industry changing invention was to take place. This change in industy invention was the first patented Smart Furniture®

The vision to create and bring custom design to a very new market. This new market was everyone. Taking Stephen’s goal and mission to allow people to help themselves simply to put design directly into the hands of the customer.

Empowering people to create their own furniture was the philosophy that Stephen used. Allowing people  to design their own furniture space, since everyone’s needs and styles are different.

Inventing a tool free product line that was customisable was the differentiation that Smart Furniture hoped to bring.

The next big move was the creation of the web bassed “Design on Demand®” model.

Smart furniture is proud to be headquartered and  is located in Chattanooga, TN, and the Smart Furniture flagship product is still manufactured, warehoused, and shipped from the local area.
